Budding young musicians are being invited to take the first steps on their musical journey in Port Glasgow.

Riverside Youth Band, the reigning Senior Section Scottish Youth Champion is welcoming young people from across Inverclyde and beyond to get involved in its latest pBuzz Music Camp.

Free sessions

The free sessions take place in Port Glasgow New Parish Church from Monday July 28th to Thursday 31st July.

Each day session starts at 10.00am and lasts until 11.30am and will be led by experienced educators, and graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the University of Strathclyde.

Youngsters aged 7 plus are welcome to get involved. The instruments will be provided, and no previous musical experience is required.

Lifelong journey

Laura Good, Riverside Youth Band's Education Director told 4BR: "Learning a musical instrument is a life-changing experience, and our pBuzz Music Camp gives young people the chance to take the first step on what could be a lifelong journey in music.

The music camp is an ideal activity for children to enjoy during the summer holidays, and we look forward to welcoming people to our sessions in Port Glasgow New Parish Church."

Seaside adventure

The initiative follows a successful three-night trip to Lancashire, where the Youth Band was the first from Scotland to perform at the 'Brass at the Seaside' Music Festival (above).

There they performed in an evening concert alongside Lancashire Youth Brass Band, St Helens Youth Brass Band and Blackburn & Darwen Band, with all the organisations joining forces for massed items to bring the concert to a close.

The next day, Riverside Youth and Training bands performed in the picturesque bandstand in St Annes, entertaining crowds in the sunshine.

Youngsters aged 7 plus are welcome to get involved. The instruments will be provided, and no previous musical experience is required4BR

Pride

Reflecting on the trip MD Mark Good, commented: "Members of Riverside Youth and Training bands represented Inverclyde with pride on their travels. The standard of playing was very high, and they conducted themselves with great maturity at all times.

Events like these are the glue that bind organisations like Riverside together, and we look forward to taking our young people on another exciting adventure in the future."
