The Wantage Band will be giving the word premiere of a new work by composer Florence Anna Maunders at the Newbury Spring Festival next month.
The prestigious festival will this year feature artists such as trumpeter Matilda Lloyd and the Symphonic Brass of London Quintet, saxophonist Jess Gillam, the Ensemble Augelletti, The Tallis Scholars and the Estonian Symphony Orchestra amongst others.
The Triumph of Kakistocracy
'The Triumph of Kakistocracy' — which takes its inspiration from the noun to describe government run by the worst, least qualified or most unscrupulous of citizens' forms part of an ambitious programme that will also see the band perform Edward Gregson's 'The World Rejoicing: Symphonic Variations on a Lutheran Chorale' as well as works as diverse as Mozart to Newly and Bricusse.
The 2022 Royal Philharmonic Society Award winner's work was commissioned by the Friends of Newbury Spring Festival and will be performed by the band under the baton of MD, Jonathan Pippen.
Florence is currently writing a work as part of a creative link with the Vale of Glamorgan Festival and Tredegar Band, whilst her composition 'Sewer Crisis', was recently performed to critical acclaim by Fulham Brass Band at the Regent Hall Brass Arts Festival.
