New lead at Tyldesley after Taylor era ends

Robert Taylor has stepped down from conducting Tyldesley Band after 20 years at the helm.

The band has enjoyed contest and concert success with Rob at the helm

The musical partnership between Robert Taylor and Tyldesley Band has come to an end after 20 years.

During his tenure, the band claimed a brace of both Brass at the Guild Hall and Tameside Open titles as well as winning the Fleetwood contest. In 2015 they secured the North West Regional Second Section title, going on to come 11th at the National Final. They returned to Cheltenham again this year where they secured a top-ten finish and returned to the First Section.

Lifeblood

A spokesperson told 4BR: "It was not only contesting success that Rob has guided the band to. Over the past 20 years, he has helped to build a concert schedule that has been the lifeblood of the band."

They added: "We are extremely grateful for the effort and dedication that Rob has put into running the band and delighted that he has agreed to continue as a valued playing member."

New MD

It was confirmed that the experienced Neil Samuel will be the new Musical Director.

Having taken a break from full time conducting roles for the past two years, the former Rainford and VBS Poynton MD is already working with the band on different projects.

The band has also welcomed former YBS, Fairey and Leyland horn player Tracey Daniel to the ranks.

Excited

The spokesperson added: "We are really excited to be working with Neil and look forward to being able to focus on challenging for the North West Area title following our promotion.

To also be able to sign a player of Tracey's calibre is a clear sign of our future intentions."
