The contribution made to the Lindley Band by Neil Jowett has been commemorated by the unveiling of a special Blue Plaque on the bandroom he did so much to be part of during his life.
Neil was a proud player, conductor, trustee and president of the band — as well as taking on just about every other job that was required to keep Lindley on the road over the years.
He passed away in January 2021 and is greatly missed by all who knew him throughout his over half century association with them.
Remarkable
A spokesperson told 4BR: "His was a remarkable contribution — as a widely admired cornet player to Musical Director of over 30 years standing, and so much more with the likes of local groups such as Huddersfield Wind Band and Sundown Swing, as well as the training band Tower Brass, which he established from the youngsters he taught."
They added: "Tower Brass returned to rehearsals in October 2021 and is now under the baton of Richard Jones, who is honoured to follow in Neil's footsteps."
New composition
Tower Brass, which has evolved into a community band of adults and youngsters was delighted to be asked to play when the plaque was recently unveiled by members of Neil's family.
The occasion was also marked by a new composition from Richard called 'Fanfare in Memoriam' as well as a performance of one of Neil's favourite pieces, 'In the Mood'.
