The 74th annual SWBBA Own Choice contest returns next month to the Riveria Centre in Torquay.

After a two year break, the 74th annual South West Brass Band Association (SWBBA) Championships return to the Riviera International Centre in Torquay on Saturday 5th November.

Adjudicators Nicholas Garman and Paul Norley will be joined by Stephanie Binns as part of the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators (AoBBA) training programme. SWBBA stated that they were delighted to be providing the opportunity to support their initiative.

John Woods, Vice Chairperson of the WEBBA told 4BR: "We are delighted to see a return to the Riviera Centre and with an entry of 11 bands in the Open Section.

With a total entry of 23 bands, we are looking forward to a wide range of own choice music including the Training Band Section."

Riveria return

The event also sees a return to the venue that will once again host the West of England Regional Championships in 2023.

John added: "Many bands have bene hit hard during the past two years so this is an encouraging return which we hope to build on, so please come along and support their efforts."

General tickets will be available on contest day (cash or card) and refreshment and trade stands available all day in the Arena. The first performance takes place at 9.30am.

Doors open at 9.00am.
