There is plenty of talent and great music on show as the National Youth Brass Band of Wales alumni join forces for anniversary concert.

The concert will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the National Youth Band of Wales

The 40th Anniversary Reunion Concert of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales will take place at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff on Saturday 22nd October (6.45pm).

The band will be directed by Edward Gregson and Dr Robert Childs and has shown its ambition to showcase its ensemble and solo talents.

Soloists

The soloists will be Owen Farr, Glyn Williams and Dewi Griffiths — all of whom enjoyed their spells with the band.

Owen will perform Gareth Wood's delightful 'Concertino for Tenor Horn and Band', whilst Glyn is sure to wow the audience with his take on the classic 'Grandfather's Clock'. Dewi has also chosen a classic solo in the form of 'The Paragon'.

The band will also be testing their mettle with Gregson's 'Connotations' and 'Vivat Regina' by William Mathias — both played on the very first course in 1982. Eric Ball's 'Resurgam' will also be performed as well as 'Fanfare with Variants' by the celebrated Welsh composer Alan Hoddinott.

Fantastic night

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Everything has come together for what promises to be a fantastic night of celebration.

It's wonderful that the ensemble will be conducted by the founding Musical Director Edward Gregson and Dr Robert Childs both of whom have ben huge influences over generations of Welsh playing talent.

Owen, Glyn and Dewi are just three of those players who have gone on to make their mark in the brass band world — and the ranks of the band are going to be packed with many more, so please come along and enjoy a wonderful evening."
