The Hepworth Band has welcomed a trio of new signings.
They are led by Australian euphonium star James Blackford. The highly regarded performer is currently studying for a Masters in Music Performance at the RNCM in Manchester. The Besson artist was the winner of the 2020 RNCM Concerto Competition.
Thrilled
He said, "I'm thrilled to be returning to Manchester to finish my studies. Alongside college commitments, including performing a concerto at the 2023 RNCM Festival of Brass, joining Hepworth on solo euphonium is a huge bonus.
I'm especially looking forward to performing at the Scottish Open and at the Yorkshire Regional Championships in the new year."
The band also welcomes former Brighouse & Rastrick and Grimethorpe player Christopher Hirst on second trombone and Ellie Watson, a recent RNCM graduate on second horn.
Meanwhile, George Newbould moves to soprano cornet after enjoying a three-year tenure as principal cornet.
Future
Musical Director Ryan Watkins told 4BR: "Following our victory at the Doctor Martin contest, these welcome additions are a further step in building for the future.
I would also like to add my appreciation to George, who has been an outstanding principal cornet and is already showing himself to be a top class soprano."
An announcement on the appointment of the band's new principal cornet player is to be released shortly.
