Brisbane Excelsior has retained the Queensland Brass Band Championship, which took place at the Empire Theatre the city of Toowoomba last weekend to coincide with the centenary celebrations of the Toowoomba Municipal Band and the city's annual Carnival of Flowers.
They delivered high class performances of the set work, 'Kensington Concerto' by Eric Ball, the Shipley Douglas march, 'Mephistopheles' as well as their own-choice test-piece selection of 'Between the Moon and Mexico' by Philip Sparke and sacred item.
Section winners
There was an equally emphatic victory on the B Grade Brass section for Brisbane Brass 2, whilst Sunshine Brass took the C Grade title in comprehensive manner. There was just the one competitive entrant in the D Grade with Brisbane Brass 3 as they performed 'The Prizewinners' by Philip Sparke.
In the popular Street March competition there were victories for Brisbane Brass, Windsor Brass, Bayside Brass and Brisbane Brass3.
