Crwbin take flight for National

A new work inspired by the wonderful Red Kite bird of prey will be performed by the Crwbin Band at their forthcoming appearance at the Welsh National Eisteddfod.

Red Kite
The Red Kite is now a protected species in Wales

Fresh from qualifying for the National Finals of Great Britain at Cheltenham later this year for only the second time in their 131 year history, the Crwbin Band from West Wales will head to its own 'National' — the Eisteddfod in Tregaron armed with a brand new work.

Y Barcud Coch

Composed by MD, Alex McGee 'Y Barcud Coch' ('The Red Kite') describes the beauty, power and fragility of this once critically endangered species.

The magnificent bird of prey has been successfully reintroduced into parts of mid Wales and beyond through an outstanding protection programme such as the Welsh Kite Trust' which now attracts hundreds of tourists and bird lovers to see them. There are now over 300 breeding pairs in Wales.

Success story

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The band chose to put this original work into our entertainment programme as it is not only challenging and engaging but celebrates a true Welsh success story — a bit like the band!"
