Rothwell add to cornet strength

The Grand Shield winners add strength to their cornet section ahead of the major contests later in the season with singing of the experienced Andy Novell.

The newly crowned 2022 Grand Shield champion Rothwell Temperance has strengthened its cornet section ahead of its appearances at the British Open and National Championships of Great Britain.

The experienced Andy Novell joins the Yorkshire band after enjoying a five year tenure as principal cornet of Shepherd Group Brass in the North East.

Impressed

The announcement was made on the band's Facebook page, with MD, David Roberts saying: "We have been impressed by Andy's attitude and his natural cornet sound. We are looking forward to seeing his development.

I am delighted to be welcoming him to the band for what is hopefully a long and successful stay."

In response the player added: "Having played with Rothwell for a concert at Morley Town Hall, I was excited to be given the opportunity to join.

I'm really looking forward to working with Dave and the band and I can't wait to get going with preparations for the Open and National Final."
