David Smith will join Jamie Smith in leading Hade Edge Band from the rostrum.

The Hade Edge Band has announced a new addition to their conducting team.

David Smith will work alongside namesake and Musical Director Jamie in leading the band from the rostrum.

He is no stranger to the band having played euphonium and tuba for a number of years before joining Hammonds on solo Eb tuba.

Opportunity

Speaking about his new role he told 4BR: "When I was asked to conduct in partnership with Jamie, I knew it was opportunity I couldn't turn down. He has built a strong band over the last three years, and although we are very proud of his appointment as principal cornet at Grimethorpe it is only natural the committee would be keen to retain his services."

He added: "This means it can be done and I'm thrilled as this is a very special band to me ever since I first entered the bandroom as a student in 2004.

To be returning now with a remit to support Jamie in continuing to build on such solid foundations is hugely exciting. I look forward to a long association of wonderful community and outstanding music making."

Great musician

In response Jamie Smith added: "I'm excited to be working with David. Not only is he a great musician, but since our initial chat it was abundantly clear how much the Hade Edge organisation means to him.

I know he will do everything in his power to make sure the band continues to go from strength to strength."
