The 30th anniversary of Derwent Brass is to be celebrated with a trilogy of concert events in May, July and September this year — each representing a decade of the band's history.
Trilogy
A special 'Movies and Musicals Special' complete with guest performers and a 30-minute new adaptation of 'Sweet Charity' will take place in May.
It will be followed by a Gala Concert entitled, 'This Is Derwent 30' in July, which will see the band perform important works associated with its success over the last three decades. It will also see the world premiere of 'Jubilate' from the pen of Music Director Jack Capstaff, written specifically for the celebrations.
The final instalment 'Under the Stars' will take place at Derby Cathedral in September with the band showcasing a programme including a full performance of Holst's 'The Planets', arranged by Stephen Roberts utilising celeste, harp, chorus and the Cathedral organ.
The concert will feature yet another new work, this time from the pen of their contemporary music associate Paul McGhee.
Important landmark
Band Manager Chris Leonard told 4BR: "Our planning for 2022 began some time ago with us mapping out various objectives we wanted to achieve across several aspects of the organisation in time for this important landmark.
The special concert trilogy with new musical themes provides the perfect ingredients to drive another inspiring and busy year of collaborative music making at the highest level for the band."
He added: "We must take this opportunity to thank all our followers and volunteers who continue to support everything we do.
Our 'Friends of Derwent Brass' programme and social following continues to grow, and our digital developments would simply not have been possible with the creative input and sponsorship of patron Ash Hewson of Affinity Serif."
