With the European Brass Band Championships due to take place in Birmingham at the end of the month 4BR continues its series of interviews with players, conductors and personalities who have made their mark on the event since its inception in 1978.
Today we are joined by trombone player Nick Hudson who in 1992 in Cardiff was part of the winning Britannia Building Society Foden's Band conducted by Howard Snell.
Theirs was a truly memorable victory — securing two first place finishes on the set-work 'Five Blooms in a Welsh Garden' and on their own-choice selection of Philip Sparke's 'The Year of the Dragon'.
The latter of course featured Nick on sublime form in the central 'Interlude' in a personal performance that is still talked about to this day, and can be enjoyed thanks to it being recorded live at the contest.
