With the European Brass Band Championships due to take place in Birmingham at the end of the month 4BR continues its interview series with players, conductors and personalities who have made their mark on the event.
Today we are joined by Mike Kilroy, Chairperson of event organiser Brass Bands England, but someone who also has an association with the event as a fan and as a player — being part of the winning Fairey Engineering band in 1994.
He talks about his first impressions of the contest and how its inspired him, the 'away goals' near misses as a player and the pride in helping to lead the return of the contest to Symphony Hall — and what he hopes it will achieve.
