The next Brass Bands England (BBE) webinar series (Thursday 12th November at 7.00pm) will see IVE Associate, Sophie Hunter look a decade into the future of the brass band movement.
Challenge 30
'Challenge 2030' is BBE's ambition to see the make-up of its members as well as the audiences they perform to more accurately reflect the communities and societies they represent.
The webinar is part of a number of education, training and youth projects managed by BBE to help all its members reach this goal.
IVE's Associate Sophie Hunter will deliver a session on Diversity and Inclusion, and why as a sector bands should make it a priority to embrace it to remain relevant and sustainable.
Creative Case for Diversity
Sophie will explore issues and perceptions surrounding unconscious bias, legal responsibilities and the Arts Council's own 'Creative Case for Diversity', as well as providing an open forum to discuss the topic.
IVE is a training company that describes itself as one that places human creativity at the heart of business productivity and innovation. It is also the Arts Council 'Bridge Organisation' for Yorkshire and Humber.
Explore issues
A BBE spokesperson told 4BR: "This is one of a number of activities BBE is undertaking around the issue of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).
The EDI group is engaging with a variety of groups who support and work with those less well-represented in banding, to explore the issues that can cause people to feel excluded from brass bands, or indeed music-making in the UK, and how this can be addressed."
They added: "The plan is to develop support and resources to help bands proactively welcome new players to enrich and secure the future of banding."
