The new release has made a huge impression on listeners in just 3 weeks.

Black Dyke's latest CD release has made it to number 1 in the official classical music charts.

After making a solid impression on its release 'John Rutter: Anthems, Hymns and Gloria for Brass Band' has been propelled to the top in just three weeks after being featured as 'Album of the Week' on the Classic fm radio station.

The Naxos CD features the Queensbury band alongside the Sheffield Philharmonic and is directed by Prof Nicholas Childs and Darius Battiwalla.

Outsold

It has outsold recordings by some of the classical world's most famous performers and ensembles such as pianist, Lang Lang and the London Symphony Orchestra.

The 11 tracks are arranged by Belgian conductor Luc Vertommen and feature many of the English choral composer's most famous works covering the period 1974 to 2011 — including the 'Pie Jesu' from his 1985 'Requiem', 'The Lord Bless You and Keep You' and 'This is the Day' composed for the wedding of HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011.

Remarkable

Speaking about the latest news, Prof Childs told 4BR: "It's been a remarkable couple of weeks since the CD was released and the interest that has been created has been incredible.

This has become a worldwide story and we have been inundated with messages of congratulations as well as requests from media outlets. It shows that brass bands and Black Dyke in particular retain a very special place in people's musical affections.

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has streamed, downloaded or bought copies of the album over the last few weeks.

It's given us a huge boost of musical confidence at what is a very difficult time for the brass band movement."
