Composers and conductors enjoy Berne scrutiny

International delegates are currently being put through their musical paces at the University of the Arts in Berne.

Bene
The delegates are having their music performed and conducted helped by the Swiss Army Brass Band

The series of masterclasses in Composition and Conducting for Brass Band is already well underway at the University of the Arts in Berne.

The event is being organised by Rolf Schumacher, Head of the Department of Wind Band conducting and features conducting workshops tutored by Ivan Meylemans, whilst Oliver Waespi is leading the composers alongside additional invaluable help from Corsin Tuor, tutor in wind band conducting at the University.

International scope

The organizers are delighted by the quality and variety of the new compositions for brass band submitted by the five international participants from Austria (Andreas Ziegelbäck), Great Britain (Danny Riley), Japan (Wataru Mukai and Hitoshi Takahashi) and Switzerland (Aurélien Darbellay).

Concert

Their new works are currently being workshopped, developed and rehearsed before each is given a performance in a final live-streamed concert given by the Swiss Army Brass Band.

They will be conducted by Luca Belz, Aurélien Darbellay, Sandro Frautschi, Hitoshi Takahashi, Zeno Schmidiger and tutor Ivan Meylemans, and takes place on Friday 4th September at 7.30pm (European time) at Kulturfabrik Berne.
