Foden's returned to Armagh recently for their annual trip to host the Armagh Old Boys Summer School course — although on this occasion it was all done online.
Since 2000, the week-long course has attracted over 100 delegates of mixed age and ability with tuition provided by members of the Sandbach band. Sadly, this year's 20th anniversary course was cancelled due to Covid-19 so it was decided to try out an innovative new approach instead.
It proved to be a great success with 45 delegates enjoying a full day of interactive learning delivered by Michael Fowles, Mark Wilkinson, Jonny Bates, Gary Curtin, John Barber, Lesley Poole, Mark Bousie, Anthony Mann and Shaun Farrington.
Classes
Foden's Band Manager Mark Wilkinson told 4BR: "The team provided classes on practice and performance techniques, warm ups, improvisation, conducting and composition, as well as giving valuable feedback on individual performances.
The day was rounded off with a brass band quiz delivered by sop star Richard Poole who was instrumental in arranging the proceedings."
Following the completion of the course, a questionnaire was sent to all delegates.

Positive feedback
The feedback was extremely positive praising the diverse range of subjects covered, the informative and professional way that these were delivered as well as being excellent value for money at £15 for the day.
One parent later posted on the Foden's website that their 11 year old son had "learnt so much from the classes, which will help him in the future."
