The 10th anniversary edition of the Foden's Band Solo & Ensemble Competition will go ahead this online this year to both encourage worldwide response and the safety of all concerned due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Six categories
The event has grown in popularity and prestige and this year will see six different categories of competition.
There will be Slow Melody and Air-Varie sections for each of the over-18 and under-18 age categories, plus Open Percussion and Ensemble sections.
Due to the anticipated number of entries, the solo categories will be split into two rounds of judging, with the top-five contenders invited to perform a different piece in the Grand Final.
This will also be broadcast online on Friday 30th October and will also feature the top-five performances from the other categories before the announcement of the results.
Opportunities
Organiser, Andy Rolfe told 4BR: "We're thrilled to run the event once more, especially given the current worldwide circumstances.
We're also delighted to be able to offer each competitor the opportunity to perform to the banding world and we hope it will encourage as many players of all ages and abilities to enter to enjoy the unique experience."
Support
Andy also revealed that support for the 10th anniversary event has come from Kapitol Promotions, which presents the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, along with its sister company's magazine, Brass Band World / BBW Digital.
The ensemble element is also supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
He added: "The event will build on the successful Online Festival and Whit Friday events Foden's has already staged during lockdown and which have been enjoyed across the banding globe."
