Last chord looms for Durham composer competition

You need to be pronto to get your entries on for the Durham & Open Composition Competition.

  Works can be inspired by iconic figures of the north east

There are just three weeks left to enter the Durham & Open Composition Competition.

Hosted by Durham University Brass Band and supported by Durham Music Shop and respected local composer and musician Steve Robson, it is open to all UK university students and recent graduates.

North East theme

Entrants should provide a work themed around the North East of England, or a concert march. The original compositions, up to 6 minutes in length, should be arranged for standard brass band orchestration and be playable by a band of Third Section level.

Winning entries, judged by Steve, will be published by Modrana Music Publishers.
The competition has two classes: one open to all UK university students and recent graduates, and another open to Durham University students and recent graduates.

All compositions will be judged anonymously. Submissions are also encouraged to include some accompanying notes about the composition4BR

Competitive

Both classes are offering prizes of £100, with the work published with a competitive royalty agreement. It will also be performed by Durham University Brass Band in the upcoming academic year.
