Countdown for NYBBS

More than 150 youngsters will take part in the on-line grand finale of this year;'s National Youth Band of Scotland course.

NYBSS
The National Youth Band of Scotland has taken its course on-line this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic

The release of a new video trailer has signalled the countdown for the on-line 'grand finale' performance by more than 150 young musicians of the National Youth Brass Bands of Scotland.

It will take place on Saturday August 8th, and will be the culmination of weeks of hard work undertaken by players, tutors and administrators alike.

For the past two months, course organisers from the Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) have been collaborating with tutors and conductors to engage the students in the preparation for the on-line concert to bring to an end what would have been a week of learning at Strathallan School in Perthshire.

Music making

All three NYBBS bands — Children's, Reserve and Senior — will be participating in the innovative venture to create an enjoyable programme of music interspersed with interviews and chat.

The individual parts (all recorded in isolation by the young players) and conversational snippets are currently being edited into a single show by professional TV and film editor Clyde Wallbanks, to be broadcast on the SBBA YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc2dVw33bixud11Pe5LqaZg at 3.00pm on 8th August.

I'm extremely proud of the way everyone has pulled together to ensure that the show will go on. The amount of work this has taken to make it a reality is staggering, but it demonstrates the spirit of determination that we will prevailCarrie Boax

Different and exciting

Speaking about the initiative to 4BR, SBBA President Carrie Boax said: "It was a devastating blow to everyone when we had to reluctantly agreed to cancel the summer course, but it was the only decision we could make at that difficult time.

This was not the way we envisaged celebrating our 125th anniversary year but taking the decision on going on-line has ensured we kept the concert a fixture in the calendar and showed us different and exciting ways in which we can work in the future."

Carrie added: "I'm extremely proud of the way everyone has pulled together to ensure that the show will go on. The amount of work this has taken to make it a reality is staggering, but it demonstrates the spirit of determination that we will prevail."
