Composer Stan Nieuwenhuis and cornet star Harmen Vanhoorne are to be featured in a special on-line 'Music Masters' Session' on Thursday 16th July. They have been invited by Fashviart.com to take part.
Acclaim
The Belgian duo have gained worldwide critical acclaim for their innovative collaborations, and during the live broadcast will share details of the inspiration and techniques used in their work — including their 'Ellis Island' album
That took inspiration from the haunting images captured by photographers at the turn of the 20th century of immigrants from all over the globe coming to America — their first view as well as landing place in their new land being the small island that housed its immigration centre that processed over 12 million people from 1892 to 1954.
Relevance
The work is not only a remembrance of those times but also of the relevance of immigration today. As the duo state: "While today the world sees refugees from the middle-East, Africa or Asia, it links in the same light as that of Europeans which came to the USA a century and more ago and how they were judged."
The pair will also talk about their earlier 'Doux' project as well as individually about some of the techniques they employ — from Harmen's playing on cornet, trumpet and flugel to Stan's use of electronic effects.
The talk will be introduced by Sam C. Ezugwu on Thursday 16th July at 11.00am start (BST)
