The Llwydcoed Band has had its 'Little Prayer' answered during the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown thanks to a wonderful gesture from the world renowned percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie.
The Welsh band, who earlier this year claimed their first qualification to the Albert Hall National Final, wanted their latest self-isolation video presentation to thank frontline NHS and Care workers by giving a performance of her beautiful 'Little Prayer' which had been arranged for brass band by Dr Robert Childs.
Positive response
However, hoping that he could make it even more meaningful, MD Chris Turner came up with the idea of asking the inspirational musician to join them.
And after sending her a copy of the arrangement he was delighted to receive the positive response in return, with Dame Evelyn playing the opening verse on a marimba at her home.
Speaking to 4BR, Chris was understandably still rather bowled over by her generosity. "Once the idea came to me I thought why not ask, and to receive such a generous reply to what it was for was incredible. It's a piece that touches the hearts of millions to this day."
Two days
He added: "My thanks go to Dame Evelyn's PA, Cheryl for helping us so much, and of course to Dame Evelyn. Amazingly, just two days after we got in touch her video popped into my in-box and the project took shape.
We are very grateful to her for supporting our tribute to the NHS in this trying time. It means a great deal that such a world renowned musician would support us in thanking those keeping us safe."
