International Brass Band Summer School cancelled

The leading brass band summer school has been cancelled but has already booked its place in the sun for 2021.

IBBSS
There will be no summer course this year, but it will return in 2021

4BR has been informed that due to the ongoing concerns over the Coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 International Brass Band Summer School (IBBSS) has been cancelled.

Regarded as the banding world's leading summer school event, it was due to have taken place between 2nd — 8th August at the University of Wales, Swansea.

New era

Despite the news, Course Director, Prof Nicholas Childs told 4BR that a new date for the 2021 course has already been secured at the venue. It will take place between 1st — 7th August, with the Black Dyke Director of Music determined that its return will herald a new and exciting era for the event.

"This was a very difficult decision to make, but one that placed the health and well being of our friends from across the world first and foremost.

Our thoughts go out to them and their families and although there is great disappointment that we have had to take this course of action, it was the right thing to do.

We hope we will be able to welcome back everyone in 2021, and plans are already well underway to once again make it the finest course of its kind anywhere in the banding world."

International reputation

Course Administrator, Alison Childs added: "The IBBSS has a truly international reputation would have seen well over 100 delegates come to Swansea to enjoy a great week of music making and fun.

We have followed all the appropriate guidelines and government advice on this matter and worked closely with the university.

2021 will be with us soon enough, and with it a new era for the IBBSS, so don't miss out."

We hope we will be able to welcome back everyone in 2021, and plans are already well underway to once again make it the finest course of its kind anywhere in the banding worldProf Nicholas Childs

Tutors

Alison conformed that the 2021 course will once again be led by Prof. Nicholas Childs, with a team of tutors that include, Richard Marshall, Tom Hutchinson, Chris Turner, Owen Farr, Dan Thomas, Gary Curtin, Brett Baker, Joe Cook, Matthew Routley, Neil Edwards, Simon Oliver and Matt Whitfield, with visiting specialists in
Zoe and Paul Lovatt-Cooper, as well as plenty of new innovations from the social media team led by Rebecca Childs.
