Residents in the Saddleworth area are being urged to employ their own musical talents on Whit Friday following the announcement that the famous band contests had been cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

A Facebook group called 'Saddleworth Day of Music' is asking local residents to perform on their own instruments or sing on Friday June 5th.
The local 'Saddleworth Independent' newspaper interviewed Bob Rogers, the well known Chairman of the Saddleworth Whit Friday contests, who said that the decision to cancel the event was taken with, "much soul searching", but that he hoped that it was hoped that the event would return successfully in 2021".
