Rothwell Temperance has announced the signing of the experienced Neil Johnson as their new solo euphonium player.
He will take up his role with the Yorkshire band as soon as practically possible given the current circumstances, and takes over from Dan Morgan who is relocating to Bristol with his girlfriend.
Thanks and welcome
MD Dave Roberts told 4BR: "We would all like to thank Dan for five wonderful years of commitment and outstanding playing — it's been a pleasure to work with him. We wish him all the very best for the future."
He added: "We're also delighted to welcome back Neil to the solo euphonium seat, as when Dan spoke to me about his relocation we both agreed that Neil was the ideal replacement."
A product of the Knottingley Schools Band system, Neil opted out of a promising rugby league career to concentrate on banding — making his contest debut aged 23!
After enjoyable spells at Sharlston Colliery and Knottingley Silver he joined EYMS Band, where he spent 11 years, winning the 'Best Euphonium' trophy at the North of England Regional Championships on two occasions.
I'm looking forward to working with not only a group of extremely talented musicians, but lovely peopleNeil Johnson
Return
Neil had a previous spell at Rothwell, in 2018, but reluctantly had to leave due to increasing work and personal circumstances, so is understandably delighted to be back.
"I'm overjoyed to return in fact,"he said. "I'm looking forward to working with not only a group of extremely talented musicians, but lovely people.
Dan is a superb player and terrific bandsman, and I know I have big shoes to fill, but I'm looking forward to the challenge and I can't wait to get stuck in when rehearsals restart."
