It has been confirmed to 4BR that due to the ongoing concerns over the Coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 Bolsover International Brass Band Summer School (BIBBSS) has been moved to a new date in 2021.

Having been built over the last few years into one of the most popular Summer school events in the banding calendar, the necessary restrictions imposed by government legislation and health directives had made the decision clear.

New date

It event was to have taken place between the 19th & 25th July 2020 at Shirebrook Academy School, but will now take place between the 25th July to 30th July 2021.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Having built on the success of the 2019 course and with a move to Shirebrook Academy, a superb education and community facility on the edge of Shirebrook Derbyshire, we were confident that 2020 was going to be an outstanding success.

We are aware however that the health and well being of all delegates, tutors and organisers was of paramount importance and with appropriate advice and guidance followed we have reluctantly had to take this decision.

We are pleased however that a new course date has already been set for 2021."

Return

Speaking about the decision, Course Musical Director Steven Mead told 4BR: "I'm personally very sad we've had to postpone this year's Bolsover International Brass Band Summer School.

So much excellent work goes into making it a huge success — and the reason why it continues to attract delegates from all over the world. The decision has not been taken lightly, but it has been taken for the right reasons."

He added: "However, I can assure everyone that we have already started work to make sure the 2021 event will be better than ever. I believe the appetite for enjoying brass banding is going to be huge when this crisis passes, and the Bolsover International Brass Band Summer School will be at the forefront of that.

2021 is not that far away — and I can't wait to meet up with friends old and new once again."

I believe the appetite for enjoying brass banding is going to be huge when this crisis passes, and the Bolsover International Brass Band Summer School will be at the forefront of thatCourse Director, Steven Mead.
