Lydney Town Band has announced the appointment of Tom Dunne (left) as its new Musical Director.
The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama graduate currently plays for Filton Concert Brass and has recently developed a passion for conducting, over the last year covering concerts and rehearsals with a number of bands.
Taking over
Tom will take over from Kevin Ford who has become increasingly busy with the development of the hugely successful 40-strong Training Band, which will now form a string tributary of talent to flow into the senior band.
He told 4BR: "We're extremely pleased that such a talented musician will take us forward in a new direction. Having been the MD for several years, I moved to solo horn for the Area contest and I'm pleased that it looks like I will be staying there for some time now!"
Tom is no stranger to the band having worked on their preparation for the recent West of England Regional Championships alongside guest conductor Sion Rhys Jones.
Inspiring
A band spokesperson added: "It's been inspiring having such high calibre musicians guiding us through the music. We are very grateful to them both for their hard work and are looking forward to working with Tom and maintaining our association with Sion over the coming years."
