In a week where there have been depressing brass band announcements everywhere, there is some great news to report after Calderdale Council formally agreed to work with local groups and save the historic Todmorden bandstand.
Built in 1914, it was given protected status by Historic England in December last year after it faced potential demolition after being been out of community use for over a decade.
Future secured
The future of the Grade II listed structure was secured on Monday evening (16th March) following a council meeting when it was decided to work with local groups to see it refurbished.
It follows a concerted campaign and a 2,000-signature petition. The decision will now hopefully see moves to secure the funding to meet the £200,000 cost of refurbishment.

Work to do
Neil Davies of the Save Our Bandstand campaign said: "The future of the bandstand is now more secure but we still have a lot work in front of us to finalise the Business Plan, identify what works are required, get more people involved and secure the funding."
