Scots declare their Perth contenders

The Scottish Brass Band Associations has released the list of competing bands that will battle for honours this weekend at the Scottish Championships.

Scottish BBA
The Scottish city of Perth will welcome the nation's brass bands this weekend.

Fifty four bands will do battle this weekend as the Scottish Championships take place at Perth Concert Hall.

European and extra London qualification opportunity

Nine bands will be competing in the Championship Section determined to wrestle the title away from the co-operation Band and subsequently gain an invitation to represent Scotland at Malmo in 2021 at the European Championships.

With Whitburn having pre-qualified for the Royal Albert Hall in London, having finished third last October, it means two additional 'qualifying spots' for the first time since 1998 will be up for grabs on Sunday afternoon.

Two each for Cheltenham

The remaining four sections will see just two qualifiers be selected for Cheltenham in September. The Second, Third and Fourth Sections have all been pre-drawn with three ensembles entertaining the audience at the end of the Fourth Section with Gareth Bowman sat in the open to observe the music.

Barringer, Crookston and Dijkstra amongst judges

The judges who will make the all important decisions over the weekend is Dave Barringer, Anne Crookston, Jappie Dijkstra and Sandy Smith.
