Elland Silver Youth ready for 25 year celebrations

The remarkable Elland Silver Youth Band hopes to celebrate its 25th anniversary with past generations.

Elland Silver Band has inspired countless youngsters to enjoy playing in a brass band

Elland Silver Youth Band will be celebrating 25 years of encouraging generations of young players to learn to enjoy a lifetime of brass band playing.

From simple beginnings the band is now regarded as one of the country's leading youth brass bands and has been instrumental in helping inspire countless youngsters.

Award winning

The multi-award winning youth section has now grown to include a Starter Band, Training Band and HIT IT Percussion club, as well as an Adult Community Band, providing weekly tuition to over 100 musicians of all ages.

Several young players have gone on to perform with many of the UKs leading top flight bands such as Brighouse & Rastrick, Grimethorpe and Foden's.

Driving force

The driving force behind the last 25 years has been attributed to the hard work and dedication of Musical Director, Samantha Harrison and Secretary (and Sam's mum), Kathleen.

To celebrate their anniversary, the band will host a special concert at Huddersfield Town Hall on Saturday 27th June, where they hope as many former members will join them to perform in a spectacular massed band finale.

It all started with just a small group of children learning 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star', so who'd have thought we would be where we are today! It will be wonderful if as many former players can join usSam Harrison

Sam told 4BR: "I can't quite believe what we've achieved over the years. It all started with just a small group of children learning 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star', so who'd have thought we would be where we are today!

It will be wonderful if as many former players can join us."

Any former members interested in taking part are asked to contact Kathleen Harrison on 01484 717126 or email ellandband@hotmail.co.uk
