4BR has been informed of the death of Jennifer Giles, a stalwart administrator and committee member of the Rogerstone Band in south Wales. She died on Christmas Day after a period of ill health.

Affiliated with the band since 1986, she was highly respected throughout the Welsh brass band movement, working tirelessly as a committee member and as Chairperson for over 20 years.

Driving force

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "Jenny was instrumental in gaining lottery funding that enabled the band to find a new home as well as purchase a complete set of instruments. She was also a driving force behind highly successful tours to Ireland and to compete in the French Open.

They added: "Jenny also sat on the South East Wales Brass Band committee for many years, assisted the Gwent Music Support Service and was often seen on the registry desk at Welsh regional and local contest days.

She was well known and much respected member of the brass banding world and will be sadly missed by her family and friends."

Funeral

The funeral will take place on Friday 24th January at 2.00pm at Croesyceiliog Crematory.

Family flowers only are requested with donations in lieu payable to Diabetes UK.
