Youth Festival set for Halifax

Youth ensembles from Elland Silver Youth & Training Bands, Dobcross Youth, HD9 Youth and the Red Admiral Youth will showcase their talents later this month.

Elland
Sam Harrison certainly knows how to showcase the talent of her players...

Elland Silver Band has linked up in musical partnership with Halifax Minster to host the second Halifax Youth Brass Band Festival.

The event will take place Saturday 8th February and will see Elland Silver Youth & Training Bands, Dobcross Youth, HD9 Youth and the Red Admiral Youth Bands perform a 20-minute own-choice programme to showcase their talents.

Performance experience

Speaking to 4BR Kathleen Harrison told 4BR that the aim of the event is to give the ensembles the opportunity to gain invaluable performance experience.

"This is the aim. Each band can play a short concert set that showcases their talents in full and we will finish things off with a massed band finale. It will also provide the opportunity for groups to listen and appreciate each other's playing."

The festival is being organised jointly by Samantha Harrison, MD of Elland Silver Youth & Training bands and Canon Hilary Barber from Halifax Minster.

The event will commence at 2.00pm and conclude with the massed band performance at 5.00pm.

Watch and listen

Samantha told 4BR: "Following on from last year's successful event I'm delighted that we are able to repeat it.

It's great to bring young people from different bands together to perform, watch and listen to each other.

Halifax Minster is a wonderful venue, with excellent acoustics so it's an ideal venue."
