There has been a blow to Welsh banding in 2020 with news that 4BR understands that the popular Band Cymru televised music competition has not been re-commissioned for a fourth series.
Launched in 2014 and featuring a £10,000 first prize, it was screened on the Welsh language S4C channel, gaining widespread acclaim for its approach and production values instigated by producers Rondo Media.
Jazz, wind and brass
It saw ensembles from the jazz, wind and brass band world compete against each other, with Cory winning the inaugural event, with the final itself broadcast live.
The format was repeated with Tredegar claiming the second £10,000 first prize in 2016, with Cory returning in 2018 to win the third and final instalment.
4BR understands that dispute the production accolades and encouraging viewing figures, the decision was made not to re-commission the competition.
