Sovereign Brass recently has found a new home — one with a 160 year old brass band history.
The band has moved to Wednesbury, which has a brass band lineage that can be traced back to 1859 when the local 34th Staffordshire Rifle Volunteers was known as the 'Wednesbury Band'.
Wolves
Contest co-coordinator Gary Linford told 4BR: "That band's first contest was in Wolverhampton in 1859 at Molyneux Grounds (now home of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club) where they performed a set of waltzes followed by a piece of their own selection. They then became the successful Wednesbury Band."
Further research is currently being undertaken by the band's historian, Steve Parsons, and it's hoped to involve the local history society and local library in seeking additional information.

Band Chairperson David Hirst added: "We feel it's so important that bands recognise their roots and the contribution they make to the local community, and Sovereign Brass is determined to forge strong links with the local Wednesbury area."
