The Barrhead Burgh Band has spoken of its delight that their principal trombonist Alex Williams has been presented with a Life Membership Medal from the Scottish Brass Band Association.

Experience

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Alex has over 60 years of playing experience and continues to lead by example in both his playing and his approach to preparation. He continues to give younger players encouragement and advice."

The medal was presented by SBBA Secretary and Barrhead Burgh Chairman Tom Allan at a recent reunion concert for the Gryffe Valley Brass Band at Johnstone Town Hall.

Active

Amongst former members of Gryffe Valley Brass Band were players who have played alongside Alex from Johnstone Junior, Govan Citadel and Barrhead Burgh Bands as well as his proud son, daughter and granddaughter.

Alex is still an active player and holds the solo trombone position at Govan Citadel, the Scottish Fellowship Band of the Salvation Army and Barrhead Burgh.
