The best Mode for therapy...

Brass band music becomes part of a very personal music therapy initiative to help cancer patients thanks to the legacy of Simon Kerwin and the playing of Rothwell Temperance Band.

The new CD album 'Lago' by Rothwell Temperance Band and produced by Tabby Kerwin of Mode for… featuring the compositions and arrangements of her late husband Simon, has been bringing plenty of musical uplift to the wards of the Leeds Cancer Centre at St. James' Hospital.

The CD, contains 18 tracks by the Yorkshire band under the direction of David Roberts and was recorded by KMJ Recordings on the first anniversary of Simon's death. Simon had extensive treatment for cancer at the Bexley Wing at the hospital.

Visit

Tabby recently took the opportunity to visit patients on some of the treatment wards and introduce them to the music through a donation of 25 CDs and nine personal CD players to be used when they received treatment on three different wards.

"It was such an honour and so humbling to visit the Bexley Wing and chat with some of the patients about their cancer treatment,"Tabby told 4BR.

"Receiving treatment can be challenging and time consuming, which is why I wanted to create an opportunity for something different for the patients to share as part of their therapy treatment."

Legacy

Tabby added: "I wanted to use Simon's brass band music as a therapy and share my husband's musical legacy.

The music is brilliantly performed by Rothwell and the band will also be giving a special performance of one of the CD tracks and new Mode for… Publishing music release 'Angels' joined by vocal group Let's Sing 26 in its concert in Wakefield Cathedral in December."

Tabby concluded: "A donation from the CD sales will go to Jacqui's Million Fund which benefits cancer patients at The Bexley Wing. It was lovely to meet up with Jacquie Drake, the inspiration behind the fund as she received treatment."

Over £5,000 has already been raised in Simon's memory for the fund with further project and initiatives on the horizon.
