Flemish Open looks to attract international line-up of bands

The 2020 Flemish Open is hoping to attract an international line-up of competitors.

  The Flemish Open is one of the most popular European contest events

Preparations are well underway by the organising team towards the hosting of the 2020 VOBK Flemish Open Championship which will held on the weekend of the 18th/19th April.

The 18th April will feature the competitors in Section C followed by Section A. The 19th April will see Section D followed by Section B.

The organisers are now looking from bands wishing to register to enter the competition. Bands from Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Austria have already expressed their desire to take part.

The experienced adjudication panel will be Jan de Haan, Karl Ole Midtboe and Blaise Héritier.

New works

Four newly composed works will test the bands and will be featured in concert programme sets of 30 minutes for Sections A & B, 25 minutes and 20 minutes respectively in Sections C and D.

Section A: Goldhorn Overture (Simon Van Hoecke)
Section B: Spider's Web (Mike Sheppard)
Section C: A new work by Steven Verhelst to be confirmed
Section D: A new work by Nick Van Elsen to be confirmed

All new music will be available from their publishers as from 1st January 2020.

Concert

The Friday evening will feature a 125th anniversary gala concert with Brass Band Hombeek with guest appearances by Glenn Van Looy, Tim De Maeseneer and Stan Nieuwenhuis.

Tintwistle Band
