Ahead of their National Final challenge Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced the appointment of Sarah Lenton as its new solo baritone.
The Sterling Instruments Artist will also make her contesting debut with the Yorkshire band at the Royal Albert Hall having spent the last few years playing with a number of leading rivals, including Foden's and most recently, Leyland Band.
Sarah studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and will also be releasing her new solo CD in early 2020.
Exciting times
Grimethorpe MD Dr. David Thornton told 4BR: "We're delighted to be able to welcome Sarah. I've known her for many years and have been greatly impressed by here development into a world class performer and soloist.
She joins us at an exciting time and the band members are looking forward to working with Sarah to ensure that Grimethorpe continues to build upon its unique history in artistic and performance excellence."
In response, Sarah said: "I'm thrilled to be joining Grimethorpe. There are no more famous names in the banding world and to have the opportunity to play with such a great team and with David as MD I'm sure the future for the band is going to both exciting and positive.

Tribute
A Grimethorpe Band spokesperson added: "On welcoming Sarah we would also wish to pay tribute to departing baritone player Mike Cavanagh.
For the past five years Mike played a key role in the band's success and is an exemplary musician and bandsman. We wish him great success in his future career."
