The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) Pathfinder education initiative has been shortlisted for a Times newspaper Higher Education Award.
Nominated in the 'Widening Participation or Outreach Initiative of the Year' category, the innovative scheme started as a six month pilot in 2017, developing into a three-year programme in partnership with two Manchester Music Education Hubs and the BBC Philharmonic.
Aim
It aims to enable young people aged 10 — 16 to overcome financial, social and cultural barriers to progressing their musical talent, becoming confident, independent learners supported and motivated in their music-making.
Content includes a personalised programme of workshops, mentorship, tuition and ensemble training from RNCM students, staff and BBC Philharmonic musicians.
