Doctorate honour for McCann

The legendary Phillip McCann is to be conferred with a doctorate from the University of Huddersfield.

Ahead of leading the cooperation band at this year's British Open Championship it has been announced that cornet legend Phillip McCann is to be conferred an honorary doctorate from the University of Huddersfield.

Renowned

The Yamaha artist is renowned throughout the brass band world as a performer, conductor, adjudicator and teacher, and has been a member of the University faculty Music Department for nearly 30 years.

He has directly mentored many students who now hold important positions in professional and amateur music.

A recipient of both the prestigious Iles Medal and the Mortimer Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians, as well as the All England Masters Dedicated Service Award, the Scotsman has also earned many other educational and musical accolades.

He will receive the accolade alongside Roger Burnley, the CEO of the supermarket chain Asda.

Bilton Silver Rugby Band

November 22 • Bilton Silver (Rugby) requires a cornet player to join our Championship Section band (Position negotiable). Under MD Brad Turnbull we have a varied programme of events. Rehearsals are held on Monday and Friday at 7-45pm in our own purpose built bandroom.


Besses o'th' Barn Band

November 21 • Under the direction of David W Ashworth, we are making every effort to complete the rebuild of this very famous brass band. We require one kit and one tuned percussionists plus one Back Row Cornet to complete our line up for the North West Area Contest.
