Parc & Dare Band has announced the appointment of Lewis Wilkinson as their new Musical Director. He will take up the role at the end of September.

Exciting times

Band Chairman Glen Narbeth told 4BR: "These are exciting times for the band as we look to re-establish ourselves on the local and national contest platform.

We are sure that appointing Lewis will encourage players to join us, whilst the band also plans for the future with the establishment of a new junior section in the coming weeks."

Welsh move

Lewis will take on the role after relocating to Cardiff to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama to complete a Masters in conducting.

He has already gained widespread experience in the orchestral, operatic and wind band arenas with the likes of North Skelton Band, Blackhall Youth Band, Fishburn Band and Orchestra Cipriani.

He was awarded the Palatinate Award for 'Best Musical Direction' and received the Ian Graham Memorial Award for contribution to extra-curricular activities.

Whilst studying music at Durham University, he specialised in composition, conducting, historical musicology and arts management.
