Showcase recitals to feature at Brass Band Summer School

There is a fantastic opportunity for delegates on the Brass Band Summer School led by Richard Evans to showcase their solo and ensemble talents

Why not join Steve Sykes and give the solo recital spotlight a go?

The famous Brass Band Summer School will take place at Harrogate Ladies College between the 4th & 10th August — with Course Director Richard Evans leading a wonderful week of music making helped by a host of world class tutors.

Showcase recitals

One of the star attractions during the week will be a special series of Solo & Ensemble 'Showcase Recitals' on the Tuesday and Thursday evening, where you can sit back and enjoy the talents of performers such as David Childs, Steve Sykes, Nick Hudson, James Fountain, Brian Taylor and Owen Farr accompanied by the expert piano skills of Matthew McCrombie.

Inspiring

Speaking to 4BR, Steve Sykes said: "The recitals are our way of showcasing our talents and hopefully inspiring the delegates to have the confidence to so themselves — as players of all abilities are encouraged to take part.

All they have to do is bring along a favourite piece to perform with a piano accompaniment. Everyone supports each other and we will be able to work on your piece before hand to boost your confidence levels. It's informal and fun, aimed to encourage and inspire, so give it a go."

Great opportunity

In addition Steve revealed that an ensemble recital will also take place on Thursday evening ranging from duets, trios, quartets, so if you feel happier with someone around you there is still a great opportunity to give it a go.

"Some of these groups are formed of friends who meet up at BBSS year after year and bring their own music,"Steve added.

"Others enjoy the experience of forming new groups (and friendships) again bringing their favourite pieces. BBSS also has a library of ensemble pieces to choose from, so it's a wonderful learning experience too."
