Brass at the Saff will be leading the community celebrations — and you can join them

The inspirational a community brass band youth organization Brass of the Saff, is helping this weekend with the launch of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the granting of city status to their home of Leicester.

The band is based on the city's Saffron Lane Housing Estate and as the event coincides with the UK-wide Brassfestuk they are looking to invite as many brass, percussion and woodwind players to meet up in the centre of the city for a massed bands performance of music.

Meet up

The initiative will be part of the #Leicester100Brass events and all brass, percussion and Bb/Eb woodwind players have to do is sign up to join them on Saturday 6th July at the Methodist Church in Leicester's Town Hall Square.

It all starts at 12 noon with a rehearsal for the players, and will be followed by the performance from 2.00pm — 2.30pm.

At 3.00pm (until 4.00pm) there is a fantastic taster session for youngsters on the wide range of plastic p-instruments, before the day is rounded off at 4.00pm with a brilliant 'Sounds in Space' feature which is open to everyone to be part of a dynamic piece of communal music making.

'Sounds in Space' is an exploration of sounds within the church in a much more experimental sense. All are welcome to join us with voice and instrument for immersive participatory music-making in this amazing building.
