Brighouse announce open rehearsal ahead of Band of the Year

The Yorkshire champion has announced that it will be holding an open rehearsal ahead of its BrassPass 'Band of the Year'.

Brighuse
Brighouse & Rastrick will hold their open rehearsal this Thursday.

Yorkshire Champion Brighouse & Rastrick will be hosting an open rehearsal this Thursday (20th June) at St Paul's Hall in Huddersfield, to showcase their preparations ahead of their appearance at the BrassPass 'Band of the Year' contest in Manchester on the weekend.

Whit Friday nod

With a neat nod to their latest Whit Friday triumph under MD Dr David Thornton, the band will open their programme with 'Knight Templar', followed by solo euphonium Chris Robertson in two movements from Kit Turnbull's evocative, 'Blue Rider' concerto and their test-piece selection of 'A Lowry Sketchbook'.

Dr David Thornton told 4BR: "We hope as many people as possible join us for the open rehearsal. Our programme combines tradition with the march, with the emergence of a wonderful talent in Chris Robertson on a work inspired by the paintings of Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky."

Lowry

He added: "Even though 'A Lowry Sketchbook' is almost 30 years old now, it's still a favourite in many people's 'test-piece lists' — combining colourful textures, emotion and the virtuosity of the finale — the ideal mix for the band."

Doors open at 7.30pm with a prompt start at 7.45pm.
