The Lamplighter

Conductor Graham Helm, who will lead the 2nd Rossendale Scout Group Band, has commissioned composer Dan Price to write 'The Lamplighter', which takes its inspiration from three poems about the passage from life into death.

Graham has been a supporter of East Lancashire Hospice since his wife Paula died in 2014. Paula, a former teacher battled pancreatic cancer and spent her final days there under the expert care.

Dignity

Graham said: "Her time in the hospice was special; a place where the only rules are there are no rules. It gave us time, privacy and warmth that came through the dignity offered to us by staff and volunteers."

Graham has since helped to raise thousands of pounds for charity in her memory — and in particular the hospice, with the Scout Group Band regularly playing for patients and visitors at events.
