Welsh banding has been gaining high profile exposure on television over the last week, with Band Ysgol Bontnewydd following Cory and Tredegar in showcasing their talents to the nation — this time at the Urdd Natoinal Eisteddfod in Cardiff.
The Urdd is a youth festival showcase for Welsh literature, music and the performing arts, with the organisation itself having over 55,000 members around Wales.
Fame
Over 90,000 people visit the week long festival each year with many of the competition winners and participants going on to enjoy successful professional careers in the arts. One of this year's 'President of the Day', actor Iwan Rheon took part in his childhood before finding worldwide fame as Ramsay Bolton 'Game of Thrones'.
Title winners
Competing in their ensemble competition on the stage of the Millennium Centre, Band Ysgol Bontnewydd took the title by beating a dozen rivals with their programme set that included Alan Fernie's arrangements of 'Gonna fly now' and 'Let Me Entertain You'.
