Cory's European triumph has gained support in the corridors of power

The Cory Band has received congratulations from all over the banding world following their recent triumph at the European Brass Band Championships in Montreux.

However, two of the most high profile voices in support of their achievements came from leading Welsh politicians, with speeches delivered in the Houses of Parliament and the Welsh Senedd.

Invitation

Rhondda MP Chris Bryant offered his congratulations, along with an invitation to the then Leader of the House, Andrea Leadsom to visit him to listen to the band during a recent Parliamentary session, whilst Rhonnda Welsh Assembly Member did the same in Cardiff.

Recognition

In response to the countless messages of congratulations, Cory MD, Phil Harper told 4BR: "We're delighted by all the congratulations sent to the band from all corners of the globe, but it was heartening to gain recognition from our local politicians in both the Senedd and the Houses of Parliament.

We've thanked them both. It shows that Welsh brass banding success is appreciated and noted, and we hope that it will further strengthen the case for recognition and support for banding throughout Wales at all levels."
