Financial boost from Kerwin legacy

A wonderful gesture inspired by the late Simon Kerwin will continue to help bands with their musical development.

kERWIN
The initiative has been inspired by Simon Kerwin's musical ethos...

Tabby Kerwin, wife of the late Simon Kerwin, has revealed that bands and brass musicians have received a discretionary financial boost courtesy of her late husband's wishes.

Thrive

Tabby told 4BR: "As a true musician, Simon didn't conform to the banding 'norm'. He was an advocate of the music coming first.

He also had more knowledge and musical integrity than anyone I've known and he wanted to see the bands, friends and that colleagues that reflected his own ethos, thrive."

Tabby continued: "I've been delighted to make discretionary legacy gifts in Simon's name to bands that we both felt would benefit from the investment and also as a 'thank you' for the impact those bands and individuals had on him.

Simon would always do everything he could to help others and I'm delighted that even after his death, he can continue to help others."

Website launch

In making the donations, Tabby announced that to coincide with the launch of the new Mode for…Publishing website in the Spring, five bands who are investing their energies into setting-up training and youth bands can also benefit from free music written by Simon.

She added: "I'm offering five bands the opportunity to receive 40 pieces of excellent beginner and training band music worth over £300 and which was cleverly designed by Simon in multi parts.

Mode for… Four or More! has 20 pieces based on four parts provided in Bb, Eb and F plus an optional play-along part for the teacher or 'stars' in your brass group. Mode for… Band! also has 20 pieces based on a ten player multi-part system in various interchangeable pitches, with more advanced parts for developing players and trainers."

Applications

Applications for the free music is open to those with existing bands or bands that are making plans to set-up a new training or youth band initiative.

Tabby concluded: "As the person who set-up a music academy system in New Zealand, Simon was keen to see the same thing put in place in the UK to encourage investment in youth musicians.

Hopefully, this music will help bands by providing a complete concert programme's worth of music without the burden of the cost."
