Peggy Tomlinson is finally enjoying having a well earned rest after her last Yorkshire Championship as Regional Secretary and a new knee...

Peggy Tomlinson is literally enjoying putting her feet up at last following her final appearance as Yorkshire Regional Secretary.

Soon after she led another superbly organised event at Huddersfield Town Hall she went into hospital for a knee replacement operation.

Peggy then returned home with husband Malcolm to find that she had been inundated with best wishes and get well cards as well as flowers from brass band supporters who wanted to thank her for her years of sterling service to the Yorkshire banding movement.

"I couldn't believe the reception I was given at the Championships,"she told 4BR as she admitted that she was relaxing with a bag of frozen peas on her knee.

"It's been a privilege to serve Yorkshire banding, but to receive a standing ovation was very humbling. It was so unexpected and it meant such a great deal."

Not lost

Peggy will not be lost to the movement however, as she intends to offer her help in any way possible for as long as she can.

"I've got a new knee now, so I've been told to keep active. The contest is wonderful hands, so I will be delighted to offer any help or advise that they want.

I will also be in Cheltenham to support the Yorkshire bands with my flag ready to wave if we can add some more National titles."
